York, half way between London and Edinburgh, this city has been at the centre of English history since before the Romans came in AD71. Over the following 2000 years, York has been repeatedly invaded, defended, captured and recaptured, Consequently it has a unique and varied history, fortunately much of this is still preserved, with the walls and fortifications, a fascinating insight into medieval times.
Most people come to York to explore its history, and this is available in abundance. A walk around the city walls is a wonderful start to any stay and allows the visitor to acquaint himself with the geography of the city.
